This is the remnant of Kepler’s supernova, the famous explosion that was discovered by Johannes Kepler in 1604. The red, green and blue colors show low, intermediate and high energy X-rays observed with NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, and the star field is from the Digitized Sky Survey.

As reported in our press release, a new study has used Chandra to identify what triggered this explosion. It had already been shown that the type of explosion was a so-called Type Ia supernova, the thermonuclear explosion of a white dwarf star. These supernovas are important cosmic distance markers for tracking the accelerated expansion of the Universe.

However, there is an ongoing controversy about Type Ia supernovas. Are they caused by a white dwarf pulling so much material from a companion star that it becomes unstable and explodes? Or do they result from the merger of two white dwarfs? (Read more) | via Chandra

“Marina Abramovic and Ulay started an intense love story in the 70s, performing art out of the van they lived in. When they felt the relationship had run its course, they decided to walk the Great Wall of China, each from one end, meeting for one last big hug in the middle and never seeing each other again. at her 2010 MoMa retrospective Marina performed ‘The Artist Is Present’ as part of the show, a minute of silence with each stranger who sat in front of her. Ulay arrived without her knowing it and this is what happened.”

WHEN THEY FELT THE RELATIONSHIP HAD RUN ITS COURSE, THEY DECIDED TO WALK THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA, EACH FROM ONE END, MEETING FOR ONE LAST BIG HUG IN THE MIDDLE AND NEVER SEEING EACH OTHER AGAIN.

THAT IS HOW YOU DO IT.

I invited him to the performance because we shared 12 years of work, but I had no idea he was going to sit. So when he sat in front of me it was really so emotional, everybody could see because it was reflecting everything we went through together. In one of our performances, “The Night Sea Crossing,” we sat across from each other and he could not do it and I could. That’s why I replaced him with the public. I didn’t think he would ever sit in the chair opposite me, so when he did, I broke all the rules. I just thought that in that place at that moment there were no rules. I just needed to hold his hand and feel togetherness in that moment, which was very emotional.

Personally experimenting with performance in the past I know how different it is from other traditional forms of visual expression. This just made me cry a small tear.

Texting and technology have changed everything about modern relationships. It seems like you used to meet someone and then you’d spend time with them in person and get to know them. Now, there’s a middle phase where you engage in a bunch of nonsense-texting, trying to schedule and make plans. People overanalyze these tiny messages and go crazy.

You know when you meet someone and you feel like you had a decent connection, and then you text them and never hear back? That’s what I’m writing about. Dealing with weird problems that only this generation of people has encountered. Getting a text message and thinking, “Okay, does that mean they are really busy, or are they blowing me off?” Not hearing back from someone you’re interested in, and then seeing them post a photo of a pizza on Instagram. Isn’t that kind of a rude thing to do? Shouldn’t we respect each other a little more than that? Everyone’s been through some version of that shit, and it’s very interesting to me.

Apparently Aziz and I are on the same sort of slightly detached, over analytical page about love, and while that makes me feel intellectually sound, sometimes I just want to do something stupid, ignore all reason, and fall head over heels into something, if only for a little bit before I regain reason again, but its exactly these kinds of things that make it so hard to do that.
